How I’d Style…A Black Dress

We’re on a black dress crusade can you tell?

Back in the day, for those of us who spent hours scouring the internets for street style images & obsessing over designer clothing & accessories seen on our favourite fashion editors, there was a website known as Polyvore. A website where wannabe stylists and fashion lovers like myself would pore over images of clothing to create ‘sets’ or collages of our favourite fashion items. RIP Polyvore. You were my absolute favourite past time.

In remembrance and in honour of those very memorable times, I have created this series ‘How I’d Style,’ an ode to one of my favourite pastimes where I create a collage, a la Polyvore, featuring an item I like & style it in different ways.

Todays series features this Banana Republic dress (which was also featured in my September Edit here) which I liked for it’s length, empire waist and for the simple fact that it has pockets! A win in my book!

As we transition into Fall (for those of us living in the Northern hemisphere that is), I’m layering a lot of my favourite Summer dresses to make them work for the colder months ahead thus giving them more wear without having to relegate them to the deep dark depths of my wardobe.

This particular dress in versatile because 1. it’s black (and we all know black goes with everything!) and 2. it’s sleeveless so can be layered over or under a multitude of items. And did I already mention that it has pockets??

Let me know what you think bbs!

Let’s start with Look No. 1! This is me to a tee! These Nike Jordan 1’s are my current obsession! I would wear this look during the day to meet up with friends and have brunch at a local cafe while filling each other in on the latest gossip. This sleeveless sweater is actually for girls but I quite like the fact that it then give cropped look on an adult woman.

Dress: Banana Republic, €111,95 | Bag: Polene, €350 | Sunglasses: Hunters Sunglasses, €47,95 | ALBA Earrings: Simuero, €170 | Shoes: Nike Air Jordan 1 Zoom CMFT 2, €169,99 | Trenchcoat: Abercrombie & Fitch, €67,45 | Socks: Falke, €13 | Sleeveless Sweater: Boden, €48

Look No.2 is a mix and match of colours, textures and materials which I love! It can easily transition from day to night and is great for either site seeing in the day time, to later catching a movie followed by a to then a nibble at your favourite restaurant.

Necklace: Stellar Paris, €190 | Sunglasses: Meller , €49 | Sweater, H&M, 29,99 | Sneakers: New Balance, €160 | Earrings & Ear Cuff : Missoma | Bucket Bag: Soeur, €325 | Quilted Jacket: Mango, €79,99

Look No. 3 is an easily put together for the morning at at the museum later followed by a lunch at you favourite cafe while you people watch.

T-shirt: COS, €29,99 | Sandals: Pepper Row, €169,24 | Bag: Staud, €290 | Earrings: Nuuk Jewellery, €114 | Sunglasses: Blank, €34 | Necklace: Hipanema, €59 | Sleeveless Quilted vest: Ulla Popken, €99,99

For Look No. 4, I’d wear this next outfit for a night out on the town. With the mesh top layered under the dress, this look is easy to deconstruct as each removable layer allows you to pile on or remove as many items as you want depending on the weather. These Prada loafers will forever be a favourite of mine!

Bag: Tatuum, €75,95 | Loafers: Prada, €990 | Mesh Top, Stone Earrings & Socks : Zara | Technical Worker Jacket: Maison Kitsuné, €198 | Sleeveless Jacket: Louise Misha, €162,50

And lastly, for Look no. 5, this is how I’d style the dress for a day at the office, headed to a conference for women in the creative industry or for a meeting to sign the lease on my new home!

Wool Suit Jacket: Mango, €99,99 | Brown Loafers: Camper, €180 | Oversized White Shirt: COS, €69 | Faridah Recycled Bag & Ring : Adele Dejak | Glasses: Jimmy Fairly, €99
